5 Best Killer Dolls in Horror Guaranteed To Give You The Creeps

Or the willies, or the heeby jeebies, or whatever it is you want to call it. I’m not tremendously freaked out by a lot of things, but I know a lot of people that can’t stand any sort of puppet, muppet, or variation on the classic marionette. I like “Pinocchio” specifically the tale of a father searching for his son, to the point of risking his life in the high seas. My father didn’t do anything like that, and for all I know he’s forgotten about me and my little cozy life I’ve made for myself. That’s neither here nor there, but I don’t find these things to be that scary.

However, I am not the measuring stick. You and the millions of other fans of horror are, and with that in mind, we are going to look into the absolute sickest, twisted, and most intrepid dolls that want to kill anything that moves and practically gets away with it in each film. For the sake of argument I picked from a serious list, exhaustive even, and narrowed down what I find are my top 5. If you have a differing opinion, bring it, and drop a comment, it’s why there’s a comments section, even though it is lacking in a lot of ways.

Magic (1978)

The 1970s were insane. Some of the best horror movies came through in those years and this one from 1978 pushes the envelope in a lot of ways. It stars Anthony Hopkins, which means that the acting is top notch. It is a psychological horror film with a lot of moments that are going to completely stun. The best thing here is that the dummy here is the real crazy piece. Called “FATS” he is the catalyst of the horror, even though it seems as though Corky is really in control. Every little element here is made to stun, and it’s not necessarily what you think. Burgess Meredith does well here, and the horror comes from the mind and the doll, even if the doll is not possessed. Magic is creepy, and this movie really does well to scare anyone that doesn’t like a dummy. Even Hank Hill would hate Fats, or should I say Bobby Hill…remember that episode? Never mind.

Doll Master (2004)

Why is Hollywood so afraid of doing good horror movies? South Korea once again pushes the envelope of horror with this one. Doll Master takes on a whole new meaning in this terror filled entry. The mix of religious themes, dummy movements, and possession all make for a hectic story that fuels a lot of suspense. Piece by piece you will start to completely become afraid of porcelain dolls, and making a woman mad. Or rather, making an artist mad, because it’s here that you start to get thrown into a cycle of terror featuring some elaborate set pieces. South Korea is hard to mess with when it comes to scary movies, and they prove this point yet again with this one. It’s beyond creepy.

Saw (2004)

This tricycle riding doll is the mouthpiece for what we now know as Jigsaw. In the original film, he didn’t have a cool slasher name, and this doll was simply known as Billy. This little creepy doll is an interesting take on the whole robotic ventriloquist angle that many 1980s movies touched on but never used it in such a macabre way. It got a lot of parodies, but it’s still one of the more creepy options that you’re going to find in today’s frenzied horror world. Is the name really Billy? I don’t know, someone behind the scenes apparently called it that, but I don’t recall. I just remember that this little tricycle and suit with bowtie is beyond creepy. The doll isn’t killing, but it’s most certainly scary, and scared audiences upon first seeing it come into frame in the original Saw film.

Dead Silence (2007)

Saw was such a hit that the director and writer got another shot at making horror movie magic. They came up with a tale about an old lady that didn’t have any children at all. She just had dolls and they were her children. It was an incredible story with some serious prop pieces that will stun and amaze even the hardest of critics. The main doll “Billy” really pushed the envelope, and was very much like you would expect from a serious adaptation of the “Goosebumps” book series. R.L. Stine must’ve loved this, because it was most definitely a grown up version of his story. Dead Silence is an underrated movie with a doll that is not only killer, but he definitely possesses an epic secret and can creep out with just one eye roll. Go back and watch this one.

Child’s Play 2 (1990)

For my money, the Child’s Play franchise peaked with the second film. This movie had a lot more to offer than the first, it had better pacing, and Brad Dourif as Chucky once again creeped the crap out of everyone. I saw it in movie theaters, and this one had a lot of moments that continues to creep people out. The reason why this film takes a better note than the first, and the sequels is simple, BAFTA award winning actors and veterans of the industry. They do a good job acting here, and the story flows naturally through the final epic scene. The final sequence is one of my favorites and definitely didn’t allow for a sequel, even though we got one with Child’s Play 3. A dumb move, but hey, that’s horror for ya.

There you have 5 of the best killer doll movies, even though it seems as though they are more dummy’s than dolls. Perhaps I should’ve talked about Dollman, Killer Dolls, Puppet Master, or others, but then again, those were just puppets, right? No? Wait. Oh who cares, I’m going to go find some Cap’n, yeah I said Cap’n Crunch and tear the skin out of the roof of mouth and gums. Why? Because it’s on sale right now and it’s all I can afford to eat. So there.

Dollman vs Demonic Toys Review

You see a lot of straight to vhs film displayed in the old school video stores that line up our memories, but today? Good luck. I live in a town with no video store, so finding these rare gems like I did when I was a kid means utilizing every ounce of my brain to remember what I saw on the shelves and basic cable television when I was a kid. Most of these B-movies get translated into Spanish and are played between soccer games. I finally broke down and sat through this one, in English this time, and it’s not exactly an instant classic. The movie we will talk about today is none other than Dollman vs Demonic Toys.

This film went straight to dvd and features a lot of flashbacks. One of my personal pet peeves in film is the constant draw of flashbacks to tell stories. This film tells a story of Brick Bardo, who is Dollman as he goes to a new town with a shrunken nurse, and tries to make things right for her, and a rogue cop that has uncovered a secret lab where demonic toys are being built and used to kill!

The main purpose of the film is for Dollman to face off against the demonic toys because there is a demon soul that wants to have sex with our shrunken nurse! I kid you not. This film has a lot of deliberately stupid moments, including several flashbacks with nothing more than Dollman blowing things up. At one point he blows up can only be noted as a rapist van with the words “FAGS” written on the side of it.

You most likely know how this one turns out, and well, you will find that the movie only plays for about an hour before it just finishes itself off. The movie feels as though this film was commissioned by the old Science Fiction channel, now known as syfy, the way some of the cuts are presented, some of which just yearn for a commercial interruption, and well, maybe that’s why it is formatted in the way that it is.

The music is spooky, and eerie, not too unlike what you’d find from a Goosebumps made for television film. The music is actually a surprise, and feels odd to me.

Tim Thomerson reminds me of Rugged Ronny Garvin in a way, but other than his crew cut and weakness for a hot nurse, he’s a character that doesn’t do a whole lot for me in this film, compared to the original Dollman. Phil Fondacaro plays a cop protecting the toys at one point, and at first I thought he was the dwarf from Seinfeld, but upon closer inspection realized that he wasn’t at all, much to my dismay.

The movie is short, the characters are vapid, and if you haven’t seen the rest of the demonic toys or dollman series, you won’t really care for this one. It really feels like a made for tv movie from the 1990’s more than it feels like a release that would go straight to dvd in these modern times. The poster art is cool, and some of the musical cues are worth checking out, but overall, this is a laughable movie. The fight sequencing in the end with an oversized Guile toy is just too much, just check it out to see what I mean. Dollman vs Demonic Toys is not a highly recommended film, unless you’re watching all the series in one sitting, as there is a box set out now.

Puppet Master 2 Review

puppet master

I was a little kid when this movie came out, and that's not saying a whole lot, but my idiot parents let me watch horror, and I recall this one frequenting my vhs player for some odd reason. I'm not sure why I liked it so much, but I just enjoyed it at the time. Watching this movie again really woke up a lot of things from my memory, and seeing the rack on one of the main actresses reminded me as to why this movie is rated R and not pg-13. The movie's main actress is cute, and that's what I first remembered once this thing started, the film I refer to is Puppet Master II.

Elizabeth Maclellan is pretty cute, and the rest of the ladies aren't half bad either. This movie starts out with a simple premise, and unravels more complex things as it moves along. The main plot revolves around a group of paranormal investigators looking for weird things at an abandoned hotel, when they start to see some strange happenings, mainly a puppet kills one of them. As the movie progresses we are introduced to the puppet master and his clan of toys, he tries to win one of the main characters over, and hopes to convert her into a puppet to be his bride! The plan also showcases two very awkward full sized puppets that come to life towards the end, and really put a fine point to this creepy sequel.

The plot moves slowly, and the average viewer will most likely grow tired of the film because it is truly tiring. After you get the first death scene, you start to wonder who was in charge of continuity and design. The puppets change in size, and scope. The laws of physics are really thrown out the window during this movie, and the frequent changes in size between scenes and puppets is hilarious at times.

The film breaks a few taboos, especially in a scene where one of the main puppets kills a child. This is a big "no no" in horror, and rightfully so, the movie cuts to another scene instead of showing the death of the kid.

For those looking for sexual situations, there is the lamest and most tame love scene I've ever seen in a movie. At one point the camera barely moves over a leg, yes, a leg, and that's suppose to be sexy? I think I saw an elbow or something, but it's hard to tell. The sex scene is so mild that it doesn't even need to be in the film, it's just ridiculous. There is a shot of nudity later on, but at that point the average viewer is just too tired to care.

The film wraps up with an interesting twist, and it sure is creepy. The creep factor rises as there is an open ending that is most likely going to lead you to believe that the third film will follow the ending quite well.

Puppet Master 2 is not a scary movie, it's not even that entertaining. The lines are forced, the acting is bad, and the sex scene is the most tame thing I've ever seen. There are some creepy moments in this film, and it definitely is showing its age. I wouldn't recommend checking this movie out, unless you're an idiot, like me. I followed up a viewing of this film with "The Station Agent", which is not a horror movie. The stunts and death sequences have a few noteworthy points, but other than that, I'd stay away from this sequel, that's for sure.

Friday The 13th 4: The Final Chapter Review

friday the 13th 4

The year was 1984 and your writer (Me) was only a year old when this movie came out. This was titled the final chapter and it was the fourth film in the franchise slasher series, and guess what? It wasn't! No one really cares, but this movie did so well that the Paramount Pictures crew couldn't stop themselves from cashing in one more time, but until I review the fifth film, I'm going to talk about this one. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter stars some heavy hitters in mainstream 80's cinema. The film starred Kimberly Beck, Erich Anderson and Corey Feldman, yes that Corey Feldman.

The movie once again goes back to the Crystal Lake area and is interesting to note. The plot revolves around Jason heading to the morgue and guess what? He's not dead, so he immediately stars killing on his way back to the lake. The plot moves forward to showcase another set of idiot kids trying to find some good times out by the Crystal Lake area. This of course doesn't bode well for them and as Jason predictably moves forward, he starts to kill off so many different people.

You've seen this plot recycled so many times, and there's nothing that I can say to revamp what you see on screen. There is gratuitous sex, there is violence, there is more gore, and some interesting points of view. There is a great deal of gore compared to the other three films, and it's surprising. Somehow the censors didn't have a problem with this version of the film and you get to see a great deal of entertainment.

Sure, just like a FPS game this movie is on rails and you just watch a feast of blood, then you get the ending. I like the ending, Jason gets mopped up by Corey Feldman's character and he hacks away at Jason and we assume he's dead, until he comes back to life in another film.

As an entertainment value, this movie is good. I like it. I think that it's a good step in the series, although I don't hold it in a higher regard than it already is. You've already seen this movie several times in different incarnations, so therefore, you won't be surprised by anything that happens. That's not to say that you should watch it, it's just going to fail to impress those that already like the film, and isn't going to win anyone over. The funny thing is, after watching this film, I went back to playing the Nintendo 8-Bit game. I love it. If you haven't seen Friday the 13th 4 you should check it out, it's awesome.

friday the 13th 4

BONUS!

I was looking through some memorabilia related to Jason, and I found 2 amazing things I had to share.

jason vorhees

First and foremost, this sick Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees life size Animated PROP! YES, I kid you not! This is a 77 inch animated figure and once you press the start button he starts moving! This thing is sick, and plugs in, and if you have a haunted house or something, you're going to want to get this one. It's priced at $370 but it's well worth it.

friday the 13th toy

The second is another action figure, but not just any action figure, this Mezco Toyz Cinema of Fear toy is very detailed and sick looking. It's 7 inches tall and it's directly from this film, it looks awesome and it's not cheap. Priced at $329, it's for die hard fans.

Child's Play 3 Review

childs play 3

1991, now that's a year I do not remember all that well. I was only 8 years old and the third and what should've been the final movie in the Child's Play series came out. Apparently, the film came under controversy when a real life murder was said to be inspired by this film shocked a UK community. I have to say, as far as the original three films, this was the worst....before the worst came through town.

The plot of this film is really bad. The story follows our hero "Andy" in military school meanwhile the chucky doll is being repackaged and sold all over again. When the spirit of chucky ends up in a new doll after the old factory restarts production, one is sent to the military school and guess what happens? CHUCKY goes nuts and starts killing kids, meanwhile he's trying get back into a real body.

The gore levels are here, but the film is slow. It has a slow plot and when the reveal occurs, you are already tired of needless interludes. Oh right, gore. Gore isn't really a major factor there isn't sickening amounts of blood being spilled, and kids aren't going down easily. The adults are the ones that are getting stabbed, mauled, and even bitten by the killer doll.

Andy and his friend end up saving the day inside what appears to be an amusement park. The final sequence of this film was cool, it completely obliterates Chucky, and that's why I feel this should've been the end. It apparently wasn't...as there is another one.

Child's Play 3 is kind of scary
, for those that are really young, but overall? It's not that fun to watch. It's a weak film and doesn't deserve to be looked at in traditional sense. Meaning, I'm not going to question whether or not this is a scary film or anything like that.

As far as killer dolls are concerned, Chucky is a classic. Child's Play 1 & 2 are far better than this film. Trilogies are rarely good, and maybe that's why there's far more Child's Play films than the 1991 end point. I don't recommend watching this unless you absolutely must. It's really not that good. I don't know why I even watch it...or own it.

The Making of the Black Devil Doll Wobler Video

Even though I'm broke, and probably can't afford one, the Black Devil Doll Wobler is being made and boy do I have a treat for you guys. The following video showcases the process of making the wobler/bobble head from concept to actual production! It's really cool on a load of different levels, especially if you ever wondered how these things are made. The 13 minute video is quite good and shows a lot of intricate details you won't usually see with other woblers out there.

So here you go, a video of the Making of the Black Devil Doll Bobblehead:

Puppet Master Review

Puppet Master Poster

1989, another summer, a funky drummer...oh right, this is a horror movie site. This film started a franchise that is often times forgotten, and often times referenced in other films. Heck, Saw steals the puppet angle quite nicely, and no one ever talks about it. Puppet Master came out at the break of the late 80's and I remember it being quite crazy when I was a kid. So I took a stab at it, now that I'm older and I'm more “mature” in regards to horror film. I don't necessarily remember much about the franchise, but this film started it all, so here I am talking about yet another horror film.

The movie starts with a weird old puppeteer making a jester puppet. The puppet then gets put into a box behind a wall, packed with an ancient Egyptian paper, and what followed this thing was insane. The old puppet master takes a gun and blows his brains out in a very weird, gorey sequence, a classic. Two Nazi's break in and were about to kill him, but nope, the puppeteer does himself in before anything goes down.

The story goes into an odd story line, and I wasn't sure why. The movie focuses on a group of psychics who all have weird dreams. When all of the psychics convene at one location and their friend is dead, things start going bad. The movie turns into a haunted house type of film, and is not really that good. In fact, the majority of the film's set up takes a lot of time. I almost gave up on the film, but then things started turning good.

The gore here is mild at times, but the perception is high, with each individual puppet having a set of “killing skills”. There's one female puppet that literally throws up leeches, in real time. The effects are dated, but I didn't mind, and the gore/latex and blood all make for an interesting array of points to look forward to.

From what I can tell the final act is all about “good” psychics and evil psychics, which is really convoluted. The final death sequence takes a long time, and just seems ridiculous as the main villain gets trapped in an elevator. I thought it was stupid, and while there were some cool little tidbits and effects, the camera pushed away and the gore was toned down.

Is Puppet Master A Scary Film?: No.

I'm not scared, you're not scared, and this film is dated. It is a slow moving film with some minor gore effects that I liked. The movie seems similar in terms of effects and plotting like the film “Dolls”, which is not very good to begin with. Puppet Master actually sucks at times, and despite the fact that it's sometimes revered as a classic, it's not that great.

I admit, it's creepy, it has some unique points, but overall, it's not my favorite film. I'll have to check out the sequels, because otherwise, this film isn't all that worthwhile. Sure it is revered by a lot of different people, but honestly, I can't see why. I'd still own the complete set though.

The Gingerdead Man Review

Holiday Horror 2009

The Gingerdead Man

Man, how fall can an actor fall? Think Cuba Gooding Jr. has fallen from grace? Nope. Consider the mighty fall that has landed Gary Busey in this role, and only major star of Gingerdead Man. Yes, I said it, Gingerdead Man not Gingerbread Man…so terrible, yet so good, right? We’ll see; another holiday horror film to add to our reviews for the month is now going to feature the first of two films revolving around the clever title. You thought Jack Frost was bad? Wait until you get a load of this, and of course starring none other than everyone’s favorite psycho, Gary EFFING BUSEY!

First things first, we’ll talk film grain. This might be above average in regards to straight to dvd fare, but it’s obviously a low budget film. With a name like that, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. However, the editing is not half bad, it really is above average in regards to the budget and style this film pushes. The music is genuinely creepy at times, and at other times it’s mis-qued. The film quality almost feels like it’s sincerely trying to go for serious horror, the way the story is laid out from beginning to the ultimate set up.

The second thing I noticed about this film is the transitional stages between background set up to serious development. Meaning, we started the film with a serious armed robbery, and then moved forward to a mediocre horror scope.

The gingerdead man is convoluted, and the effects are so laughable, it’s beyond repair. Seriously, some blood went down into some flour, and while a baker’s assistant started to bake a gingerbread man, an accidental electrical surge due to a fight between rivals, the bread comes alive! Voiced by Gary Busey, the gingerdead man comes alive, and it has a taste for blood!

Here's a trailer for The Gingerdead Man:

The Gingerdead Man is not a scary movie. This film is an interesting piece of horror comedy, but it plays itself off as serious. Unlike "Child's Play" and other films, this film starts with the comedy early on. It tries hard to be serious until the actual villain shows up to terrorize the characters.

The gore effects are kind of cool. I don't have much problems with the way they are presented. However, the actual gingerdead man is just too hilarious to take seriously. While Chucky and Freddy and even Jason seemed somewhat menacing, this little baked good has nothing really going for it, other than Gary Busey's psycho voice.

In the end, The Gingerdead Man sucks. It has some moments, but it honestly feels like I'm watching an old episode of "Goosebumps" from R.L Stine rather than a serious hardcore horror film. This plot is ridiculous, and the story unfolds too slow for comfort, and when the dust settles, it really is a movie about a killer cookie! Come on! I don't recommend The Gingerdead man, it's just not that good. However, in keeping with our holiday horror theme, this one is definitely worth pulling out during the holidays. It's good for a good laugh, but not necessarily a good, creepy, scare. This thing will become a cult classic as time goes on, it just hasn't hit that stride just yet.

This thing might not be the greatest of all the horror movie reviews this holiday, but it's still in the genre. That's the funny thing about holiday horror films, they seem to take a comedic turn more often than not. There are so few good movies that feature the hoidays, and well, here's another one. This film isn't necessarily a "christmas" or "holiday" horror movie, but it has the whole gingerbread notion that shows up during the holidays, so I threw it in the same genre. Wouldn't you? I have more fun with holiday horror movies coming through the pipe in the near future, so stick around.

Demonic Toys Comic Book

Oh yeah, this week I got my grubby paws on a new comic book. Well, it's not new, it's just an old copy of the Demonic Toys comic book. I also got you guys scans of the first story of the comic book's story.

I know, this is just a petty excuse to appease only 2 of you fans that still read and comment on this site. I had a rough week and after a Double Chocolate Stout last night, I didn't have it in me to watch "Tenebre" so I decided to watch The Celtics fight The Bulls in an amazing video game like game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. It was a great game, but nothing horror related happened.

So here is how this update is going to go down. Click on the images to get a bigger version, and enjoy DEMONIC TOYS the COMIC BOOK!

Pinocchio's Revenge Review

Pinnochio's Revenge Review

The year is 1996 and Trimark pictures is making another last ditch effort in making a name for themselves in the horror genre, so they create a movie about Pinocchio. This piece of junk movie must have made a small splash because years later Lionsgate would purchase the dvd rights and send it out to people like me, who review movies for spare change. So guess what? Here is the puppet movie that I foreshadowed in Wednesday's post and it's not a traditional review, this movie made my brain hurt, and now it's hanging upside down. So join me, as I try to make sense of the horror movie Pinocchio's Revenge.

Here is a trailer for Pinocchio's Revenge:

The movie has a funny tagline, it is "Evil Comes with Strings Attached", now that's clever. However, a nice tagline isn't going to save the film from being terrible, and we see that first hand here. The movie really finds itself in a weird situation, and creates a dysfunctional horror film from the start.

We are introduced to a single parent, Public Defender who is trying to get a serial killer off due to the fact that he didn't commit the crime. However, he wants to die, and while I had my hypothesis at first, the movie never confirmed anything in regards to that story line. The story progresses with a puppet that is found amidst this trial, and it is introduced to the Lawyers home, where a little girl becomes quick friends with it.

There is a full hour or so where the puppet starts to kill people off, however, the camera and the director do not show you the puppets motions at all, making you think that it is just a scapegoat in another identity crisis movie. I hate those, by the way, and this movie plays with your head until you realize that it's nothing more than that.

There is not a whole lot of gore in this film, although there are a few "accidents" that never really kill anyone as much as they hurt them. This is terribly done and it's just a stupid way of prolonging the story. There is a sex scene, but it's the most tame, piece of junk sex scene in the world. With lots of slow motion and little to no nudity, it's just a time piece filler to exploit the scenario of single parent and neglect of a child, as the child hears her mom moaning...so weird.

The third act has Pinocchio, for lack of a better name, doing a lot of talking, with no movements of his mouth. The final act though, we get a full live action puppet going around trying to kill people. This is the worst animation and/or robotics ever made. This is a terrible scenario of film making and really makes me hate the film that much more.

The film explodes into the terrible zone with a scapegoat ending, making sure that you never see the puppet in the end, and all you see is the mother and daughter! The same type of thing happened in the Robert De Niro horror film Hide and Seek. This movie wasn't scary, and really was a waste of time. I don't really need to ask if it was scary, because it wasn't. It felt like a tv movie, complete with toned down gore and random crap.

This isn't the first time in pop culture that we have seen identity crisis or toys killing.

Remember The Evil Krusty Doll? Yeah that was an interesting take on the evil toy idea.

Evil Krusty Doll

We reviewed the movie "Dolls" on this site which featured evil stuff. Oh and I posted a "Puppet Master" comic book scan in this site too. Of course there is also the following movie posters to illustrate the point of evil toys/dolls...as a little bonus for this review not being too serious.

Demonic Toys vs Dollman Poster

Demonic Toys took a shot at Dollman in the above movie. Interesting, but terrible production values.

Dollman

Dollman! Not half bad.

Night of the Living Dummy 2

For those of you that are R.L. Stine fans, you might remember this popular series of books featuring an awesome Puppet/Dummy, easy reads, but awesome none the less.

Puppet Master 2

Puppet Master II, one of my favorite little horror movies.

Dead Silence

The writer of Saw made a very drawn out detective horror film, featuring puppets...it was strange.

Black Devil Doll

Black Devil Doll! I haven't seen it yet, but I await a dvd version of this film.

Obviously, these are not all the doll/puppet films ever made, but it will give you the idea that these are not new kind of stories. They are rehashed and usually to terrible effect.

Oh yeah! Don't forget to check out my other reviews about movies that have this sort of "identity crisis" turn of events at the end of the movies:

Panels From The Puppet Master Comic Book

Puppet Master #1

I know that this blog is mainly movie reviews. However, this week I ran into something rad for the Wednesday update, and wanted to share it with you guys. Some of you may or may not be familiar with The Puppet Master Series, and if you are not in the now, it's a really cool horror series.

The story revolves around a Puppet Maker who is making living puppets. Simple enough right? The scary parts begin when Nazis break down the doors of the puppe master's shop and start to terrorize the man, leading to a whole series of events and even a suicide....My simplistic analysis aside, you should really consider checking out the movies. I'll review them sooner than later, but for now...I wanted to share with you a few panels from the official Puppet Master Comic Book Adaptation of the movie. Puppet Master Comic

Puppet Master Comic 2

This panel below was prefaced with a sex sequence of a somewhat graphic proportion and deemed it unfit for this blog...only because it had no killing in it...and that's what we're after...right? I kid. It did have a sex scene, but I skipped it...so we begin moments after/during the sex scene below.

Comics Puppet Master

Don't call me lazy, it's not that. Netflix didn't send me a horror movie, instead they sent me 6 other films all in the realms of action, comedy, and documentary. I will receive a horror film sooner than later, and if not, you'll have to just bare with me. I try to review new movies or movies that I don't own, but if nothing comes through by Friday, I'll have to watch one of the many films I own, but I intend to use my own private stash for when I can't afford Netflix any longer, rendering them a last resort of sorts. I have another Comic Book update in the que if nothing shows up, or as a bonus for the near future. Enjoy these gorey, fun artistic renderings based on the films.

Black Devil Doll Is Coming

Black Devil Doll Poster

I first came across Black Devil Doll via rotten cotton's website. This thing has been on my mind for a while now, and I'm going to introduce you guys to it. I warn you though, this thing is really graphic both in gore levels and nudity, so DO NOT stick around if you're easily offended.

This dvd is coming straight to store shelves sooner than later, and had I not been a big fan of all things doll & horror related, I may have missed out on this one.

Child's Play Review

Child's Play Poster

What’s scary about a doll coming to life? Nothing. What’s scary about a criminal casting a voodoo like curse and putting his soul into the body of a toy doll? Everything! Child’s Play was definitely a favorite of mine when I was a kid, and today I still enjoy it, just on a different level.

The movie starts of like a police thriller with a criminal being chased down and desperate. In a last act he conjures up a spell and takes his soul and places it into a doll. This doll is later purchased by a mom who gives it to his unknowing child, and business starts to pick up!

The doll starts talking to our main character named Andy, and Andy starts to obey. The initial killings aren’t so bad, and this film maintains a creepy quality by allowing you to see first person through the eyes of Chucky as he carries out his killing spree. (which isn’t a lot, considering this is the first entry in this film) The movie moves away from simple killing, and really focus’s on Andy and his new home inside a psychiatric ward. However, Chucky shows up and Andy escapes, and we get a dead doctor!

Here is a trailer for the Horror Classic Child’s Play:

Alright, we’re 20 years after the movie came out and I wax nostalgic for this film and remember when I first saw it. I was merely five years old when this movie came out and I somehow weaseled my way into seeing it with my parents. The movie wasn’t as brutal as today’s horror films, but it was creepy at the time. While I wasn’t immediately scared of the movie, it did set my imagination on fire in regards to what could happen if voodoo were in fact real. (That’s arguable) I used to have Cabbage Patch Kids in my toy chest and this movie made me paranoid of having the stupid things. I also had one of those “My Buddy” dolls which looked a lot like the Chucky doll in the film.

The movie is a classic, but not in the traditional senses of classics. This movie is classic for me because it was a horror staple as a child. I was such a big fan that I remember begging my parents to take me to see Child’s Play 2 in the theaters and they took me! Suckers. I loved these films and they still hold true today, however, the plot is pulled a little thin, and the movie shows it’s age in a lot of the dialogue, situations, and even death scenes. Plus, it’s just a doll, spirit or not, it’s a doll! Pick up Child’s Play Birthday Edition on dvd if you don’t already have it, and revel in the 28 year old cult classic of Horror.
