Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead Poster and Trailer

Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead

Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead is going straight to dvd, and well, I can't promise that it's going to rock hard, but at least you can expect a continuation of the story. The original movie starred Paul Walker and it wasn't all that great, but the ending did leave room for a Sequel.

Will it be as good as the Wrong Turn 2 Dvd? No Henry Rollins, but of course...anything is possible.

Mother of Tears Movie Trailer

Dario Argento's Mother of Tears Poster

I'm not sure how I missed this one, but apparently Dario Argento recently had a film released in theaters. It's titled Mother of Tears, and it has been around for a while now, and unfortunately it isn't getting a lot of press or anything along those lines.

According to wikipedia.org, here's the plot:

Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento), an American studying art restoration at the Museum of Ancient Art in Rome, examines an urn found at an ancient, decrepit grave near Viterbo. Bound within are the relics of a witch known as the Mother of Tears, Mater Lachrimarum (Moran Atias). Breaking the seal heralds the return of the beautiful yet malefic sorceress' powers, and the world is plunged into chaos. A wave of suicides and crime sweeps over Italy's capital as witches congregate to pay homage to their reborn queen. Sarah must eventually discover her latent supernatural powers[5] with the help of her deceased mother (Daria Nicolodi) and confront Lachrimarum at the opulent Palazzo Varelli.

At first look, it doesn't look that good, but the posters look somewhat interesting. I couldn't find the film near my house, but that happens.

Dario Argento's Mother of Tears Poster 2

Here is the official movie trailer for the film Mother of Tears, directed by Dario Argento:

I don't like the editing on the trailer, but it looks interesting enough. If you can find it in your home town, check it out, otherwise just wait for the dvd release.

If you're wondering about Dario Argento and his legacy of horror, check out the official Scary Film Horror store, powered by amazon.com, and get the classic Dario Argento Films on dvd for a low price. Argento's work is classic in terms of horror cinema and worth owning, for sure.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween Review

Rob Zombie’s Halloween on dvd

So Rob Zombie's Halloween remake might never end up on a top 10 horror movies list, or even in the top 5 of any list that I can think of right now, but that does not make this movie bad in any way, shape or form.

When the internet learned about this remake, people were furious, citing that the original film was going to be far superior to anything that Rob Zombie could possibly make. This of course was fueled by the internet, full of people that haven’t even seen the film.

I was excited.

I liked House of 1,000 Corpses, and felt that Rob Zombie had a good idea of how to make the Halloween franchise terrifying. Especially since the franchise had taken a lot of missteps through out the years, the last of which had Busta Rhymes co-starring. So it’s not like the franchise was doing very well to begin with.

This version of the original movie tells a more completed and in depth story of Michael Meyers. It starts out from childhood, and then blossoms into adulthood, where he completely terrorizes the hospital he’s in, appropriately showcasing a lot of bloodshed a long the way.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween1

At first, you start to almost feel bad for the youngster, but as soon as his buttons are pushed too far, it’s time for revenge, and you no longer feel bad whatsoever.

One thing I must commend Rob Zombie for, as if he’d read my review, is the fact that he stuck it out for an R rating upon its initial release. This is a great thing in my view, considering there are so many pg-13 fright films filling the dvd racks across the world. I’m tired of seeing rehashed Japanese horror films turned into teenage noise movies.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween2

There was a lot of gratuitous nudity, and that’s always a plus in my book. There was a lot of blood shed, and in the end we didn’t get all the answers, but enough answers to fulfill the required movie length and story.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween3

The movie is not the greatest film ever made, but I do believe it is on par with the original and even sequel in many ways, but while it is a remake, it does not pretend to erase the past. It evokes a certain emotional connection with the audience, then pulls you out of your careful steady pace into a frenetic scope of horror mastery. I liked this one, and while many people will be short sighted and refuse to believe that Rob Zombie’s vision was nothing more than a payola scandal, I’d be quick to argue that John Carpenter hasn’t exactly done a whole lot in recent times…and while it’s fine to rest on laurels, this isn’t exactly the greatest franchise in horror movie history.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween4

Rob Zombie’s Halloween is available on dvd, and in our horror movie store if you’d like to support our site.

Now here’s a trailer for Rob Zombie’s Halloween.

Planet Terror Review

Planet Terror Dvd Cover

What can I say about Planet Terror that most likely hasn’t been already said? I’m not really sure, but one thing is for sure, this movie kicks a lot of ass.

At first glance you’re not really sure what the movie is about, as we are treated to a go-go dance with Rose McGowan that will steam up your glasses really fast. The movie foreshadows the inevitable, but with a subtle touch of class and b-movie glory that only a seasoned veteran of the genre would notice.

Planet Terror2

The movie surrounds a group of people that realize zombies are taking over and must band together to get out and fight. Along the way the characters are introduced with differentiating storylines. Some feature absurdities like being a strip club owner, mad scientist, rogue army general, angry sheriff, convicted felon, angry lesbian wife, and mad doctor, to a bbq chef gas station owner. These characters get introduced through a cris-cross of storylines that don’t intrude on the overall “zombie” plotline.

Planet Terror2x

You get treated like an adult, with the storyline trying to be serious, until the hospital starts filling up with zombies, and eventually crisis hits and the panic button is pushed.

Planet Terror3

Rose’s character also loses a leg, and isn’t outfitted with the signature gun at first, but rather a wooden leg, ala pirate. Freddy Rodgriguez (who played my favorite character in Six Feet Under for HBO) does a fantastic job in this film playing the antihero, with a pension for guns and gunplay.

Planet Terror4

The movie is fast loading, and unleashes a lot of gore, similar to the House of The Dead video games, but with a much more “b-movie” level scenario.

The film also gets down and dirty with one of the hottest sex scenes ever made, but without showing you a lot of skin…if you can imagine that. Right when you think you’re going to see the deed and this film turns for a triple x rating….the film burns up and a reel is missing….

To exemplify that, for this review we’re going to take a minute away from the review to talk about the trailer that was played before the film.

The trailer for MACHETE was played and boy was it awesome! I love the classic Grindhouse films of my childhood and this was no exception! Although this is not really a film it spiked my interest and showed a flashback to the classic 2 for 1 or even 3 for 1 cinema movies that my dad used to take me to see.

Here’s the trailer for Machete:

And we’re back to the review.

The movie goes through some plot scenarios similar to all Zombie movies, but there are some nuances that make this one superior. Besides the gore, the acting is really well done at times and makes you believe that this is more than just some b-level horror flick.

You also get an awesome cameo, which I won’t spoil for you, and an awesome array of weapons, explosions, gore, and even cleavage! The cleavage is really good, man…this film has it alls, but doesn’t cross the line into the X rating. It’s great. I liked this one better than Deathproof, and together these two films are truly grindhouse delights, I recommend it.

Check out the trailer for Planet Terror below, and pick up the Planet Terror dvd as soon as you can.

House on Sorority Row Review

House on Sorority Row Cover

A group of sorority girls accidentaly shoot their dorm mother and dump her in a pool...while still alive.

Afterwards, she comes back to life....or does she?

This movie is weird, and a highlight of horror film making. They are going to remake this one so watch this before that goes down.

Some mild nudity, a few boobs, and lots of blood spilled later, we see a pattern develop among 80's movies involving young college age women, and vengeful adults.

This film is low budget, but it holds its own against a lot of slasher films of the early 80's. You'll definitely see the same plot of Friday the 13th in this one, and you'll wish you didn't eat lunch before this one, as there are some pretty gross sequences involving a makeshift ax.

One of the deaths involves an eye gouge which is awesome!

THis movie is low budget horror, with a great twist and open ending. The poster is cool too...check this one out for sure, before the remake is all people see.

All I can say is...head in the toilet...head in the toilet...sick.

Here's a trailer for the classic 1983 horror film:

You can pick up House on Sorority Row on dvd via many sources...but you might want to just leave it alone.

Inseminoid Review

Inseminoid Dvd Cover Art

The box cover for the dvd doesn't evoke quite the same feeling as the vhs box cover. Compare the two...above is the new Inseminoid box cover, and below is the vhs edition...very different covers.

Inseminoid Vhs Box Art

When I first ran into the vhs edition of this movie, I thought it was some sort of sex-ploitation, grindhouse film, and in someways it really is.

Tower of Evil: A nude crazed woman slaughters a sailor on an island, then is taken back to civilization. An expedition is mounted to explore the island, which leads to a series of psychosexual murders. Inseminoid: A horrorific alien life form is awakened, and it needs the bodies of those who disturbed it...so it can breed!! Horror Hospital: Doc Storm, a crippled demented genius, performs brain surgery on his patients, making them brainless zombies! Curse of the Voodoo: After killing a lion, a big game hunter finds himself cursed by some African lion worshippers. The hunter then must find the witchdoctor and kill him, as the only way to lift the curse.

src - Amazon.com

This movie is cheese!

While exploring a distant planet, astronauts uncover a weird alien being who impregnates one of the crew.

Now the crew must figure out what to do next, and save the crew member, who is hell bent on feasting on human flesh.

Stupid Astronaut

If you can withstand the horrible lighting, bad acting, bad dubbing and overall horrible movie, you will be treated to one of the most phalic looking monsters in horror movie history. The alien being actually has sex with one of the crew members, and it's just disgusting.

If sexualized alien assault isn't really your cup of tea, well then you'll be glad that gore level. Body cavities, blood spilling, entrail busting gore is seen throughout this film. That's the only saving grace of this obscure grindhouse feature.

Sometimes this film is called Horror Planet, and sometimes it is called Inseminoid...I call it CHEESE!

Check out the trailer for Inseminoid, and rejoice that it is available on dvd.

They Call Her One Eye Review

They Call Her One Eye Dvd

I know it's kind of weird to say that I'm getting into Grindhouse/Exploitation cinema, so I won't really put it into that type of language. I have kind of rekindled my fascination with the genre however.

They Call Her One Eye

When I was a kid growing up, I would see these weird movies in the "Cult" section, they were what is now referred to as "Exploitation" films. Here's one such example, one that I have recently seen on a dvd full of exploitation trailers. The film is called "They Call Her One Eye" and it's seems surreal. Here is a trailer for the film:

Grindhouse

The movie, from what I've read online, had influence in the one eyed character for Kill Bill. Whatever the case is, this film is awesome...although a little odd at times, and very graphically violence and sexual...but if you're fan of the Grindhouse cinema of yesteryear, then you're going to love it.

I know I did.

You can pick up They Call Her One Eye on dvd, or search online for the original, unedited, limited edition version of this film...though obscure, it's well worth it.
